The Office Thermostat Project: What a 30-Person Company Learned About Smart HVAC

How We Got Here

The assumption is that the thermostat is the problem. The reality is that the thermostat is just the controller for a bigger system. In our case, the bigger system included an electric water heater inside a closet that needed hot water for a sink and a small shower, a basement that stayed damp because of a poorly placed dehumidifier, and a furnace room that got warmer than it should have.

If I had to do this again, I'd:
